Florist Catalogue

Duration: October 2021 to January 2022
Role: UX Research + UX Design +  Visuals

Project Vision

The florist catalogue app is an easy to use flower catalogue which allows users to find their choice flowers through user friendly site navigation or the site search function. It help users to filter down their search through different options and budget range.

The Problem

People dread the error of gifting inappropriate flowers to their loved ones and presenting wrong flowers at an event! Hence, they go the extra mile to find the right flowers, thus spending excess valuable time during the search.

Goal

To design a flower catalogue app with intutive navigation, beautiful and minimalist user interface which will guide users to their choice flowers in the shortest time possible.

Process

It all started with empathy. I spoke with those who always had to deal with the challenge of getting flowers for loved ones, events or indoor/outdoor decorations. I sent out online survey questions and interviewed some in person. Then I arrived at a primary and secondary user group which I created personas for.

The Design

I started the ideation process with 'crazy eight' for the major pages of the app. After which I selected the best design parts on each page and incorporated them into a paper wireframe to get a feel of the app design and determine the postitions of buttons, texts and images.

Digital Wireframe

I designed the low-fidelity prototype with figma. I used lines to represent texts ans block images to represent pictures in their respective positions. i also added some real texts so as to guide users during usability test.

User Testing

This round 1 user testing was on the low-fidelity prototype while the round 2 was on the high-fidelity prototype.
The research goal was to determine whether users can complete core tasks of navigating to their choice flowers and whether they can successfully design their own bouquet.

Insights from round 1

Some of the insights harvested from the user testing includes:
1. Users prefer to see all navigation options on the landing page.
2. Users need a more intuitive way of making mulitple order of same flowers.
3. Users need confirmation on every step of the way while designing their own bouquet.

Insights from round 2

1. Users need an easy and intuitive way to save their favourite flowers.
2. Users requested for a confirmation of cost before final checkout.

Iterations

All the insights were incorporated into the high fidelity mockups.. View the florist catalogue High-Fidelity Prototype here.

Takeaways

I found the design thinking process extremely useful in bringing this project to life. After empathizing with users, i was better positioned to define the problem statement which aided my brainstorming sessions for solutions. Nonetheless, I remained focused on the problem instead of focusing on one solution which could preclude other possible solutions.
Then I created the prototype and tested it with users.
In all of these I learnt to keep my users front and centre.
